OMG. OMG. OMG.

another guru award from napp’s photoshop world is sitting on my desk. my job sent myself and megan (digital imaging specialist aka retoucher extraordinaire) to the three-day photography/photoshop nerdfest in orlando, fl last week. there are so many things packed into that program, that you can never stop learning. it’s also beneficial to polish up on some of the basics, because some things in your workflow could always use updating. anyway…i was not expecting to win and was quite embarrassed when they called my name. i had to shuffle/jog up to the stage – in front of a huge expo floor of people. i didn’t fall. thank god…because it would have looked nothing like jennifer lawrence’s oscar fall. it would be been more along the lines of tai at that party in the movie ‘clueless’ (http://youtu.be/mJXjyfmIM8w).

the rue chicas: more from the ‘after shot’ series. i’m really into the scribbles, right now. i don’t know why. it has gone from paint brushes to random scribbling. i think it works nicely. either way, it’s fun. scribble on, people. oh! thanks to all of the stylists on set, that day, who helped (alexandra, evan, lauren and joji) and rachael berkowitz on hair and make-up!  KMD

back in may, i hooked up with some of the talented rue la la family to “test” with one of our models, carolan. there was no real concept, other than a focus on beauty. lindsay nordberg put together a ton of looks for the day, while rachael berkowitz made carolan’s beauty stand out even more with hair and make-up. erika weatherbee was kind enough to come in and film some behind the scenes footage, as well (where i act like an idiot): http://vimeo.com/24806480

i’m awake because i have a terrible cough AND because they are doing construction directly outside of my window.  how many times do you need to back up, mr. construction vehicle?  BEEP.  BEEP.  BEEP.  BEEP.  and i can hear the guys yelling back and forth at each other.  and the digging is actually shaking the whole house.

needless to say…i’m up and trying to make a halloween collage.  it ain’t happening.  i’ve tried 3 times unsuccessfully to come up with something cool.  i’m just not happy with the final products, so i won’t post them.  i did find an old file from 2 years ago.  it was from a photoshop class, where we were attempting some crazy composites.  i laughed when i opened the .psd, but i finished it off and almost like it.  the hands are my own and the feet were dennis’, from class.  thanks, d-nice!    KMD

over the past 3 years or so, i’ve been creating these odd collages of myself.  i was inspired by my lack of commitment to a particular class i had, when enrolled at CDIA.  we had a higher level photoshop class with john still and i had too much going on at work and home.  i didn’t fully commit to the assignment that was due and felt like i was selling myself short.  this was photoshop!  use it or lose it! 

i was browsing the AMAZING artwork posted on deviantart.com (which i do frequently for inspiration) and came across a photography that looked more like a painting.  it was very serene and whimsical.  the image was a woman looking off in the distance with her long flowing locks blowing in the breeze.  in the comments, the artist had mentioned using various brushes in photoshop to create the final product.  hmmm.  brushes. 

i immediately downloaded some hair brushes and that began my “hair series” of “art”.  i feel weird calling myself an artist, because i can’t draw or paint in the traditional form of art.  i am a photographer and photoshop artist.  a digital artist.    KMD
